Project Overview

PEPTU is the USB interfaced version of the LCD controller. It emulates the CrystalFontz USB and serial interface models as closely as is possible given that the CrystalFontz display is based around a graphics display whilst PEPTU utilises a cheap character display. It can handle two or four line displays of 16 or 20 characters per line. The prototype has been in use for several months, and, in conjunction with Crystal Control software from CrystalFontz, is very easy to use. Providing the back light for the display does not require more than 50Ma of current it can be powered directly from USB connection. Full details are available - just click on 'Peptu LCD' in th project selection list.

Graphics 1 is the interface for an LC7981 based graphics display. Currently this project only covers interfacing directly to PC's parallel port - no PIC code is available. PIC code will be release later. It has been tested extensively with LCDHype and performs well. The LC7891 controller is, in my opinion, a limited spec controller; it can be used in character mode or in graphics mode but cannot use both modes at the same time. The interface provides for the connection to the parallel port and the necessary power supply unit. The PSU provides controls for the contrast and an LED back light.

Graphics 2 is the interface for a T7963c based graphics display. Currently this project only covers interfacing directly to a PC's parallel port - no PIC code is available. PIC code will be release later. It has been tested extensively with LCDHype and performs well. The T7963c controller is, in my opinion, one of the best currently available. It can be used in character, graphics or a mixture of both modes. The interface provides for the connection to the parallel port and the necessary power supply unit. The project covers the use of a CCF back light.

The KeyPad project provides for a 3 x 5 key pad to be connected to the graphics units. It will not work with PEPTU but a future update may make it available.

The -16 Volt power supply unit provides both +5 volts and -16 volts together with contrast control for the graphics solutions. The 'pcb' also hosts the interface to the parallel port.

Warning: The projects outlined on this site have been designed, constructed and used by an experienced electronics engineer and only suitably skilled users should attempt to use the designs. The designs work on my systems but as it is not possible to test the designs in the thousands (millions??) of possible software / hardware configurations it is not possible to say that they will work on yours. It is possible, even if it is highly unlikely, that when used in some combinations of hardware and software that data may be corrupted and / or destroyed and therefore
